Volunteer as an English Teacher in rural Cambodia

If you're someone who likes to support charities in a hands-on way, please consider volunteering with SKOPE and Karuna Youth Cambodia at their small school in Kampong Speu. The children attend school for one hour to study English and would benefit from a native (or near-native) teacher. Volunteers are provided with free accommodation and food for just $1 per day. Our minimum time commitment is two weeks and we would recommend longer to benefit both the children and our volunteers.

The school has two classrooms, 450 students and a newly built library donated by SKOPE in January 2017. There are a number of Khmer teachers working at the school but we are hoping to improve both grammar and pronunciation by supplying native English teachers to these classes.

Some of our previous volunteers had this to say about their time at KYC:

"We really enjoyed our time there and we really wish to go back over time. I hope that we were beneficial to the students." Eleanor Davis and Nathan Ronchetti, volunteered October 2016

Volunteering in rural Cambodia has been the most amazing experience. We were privileged to teach in a very special community and were welcomed like family." Emma Harris, volunteered January - February 2017

"Volunteering is hard work but incredibly rewarding, giving an insight into the real Cambodia and its wonderful people. These communities have very little but gave so much to us during our time there ... memories we will treasure forever." Reece Jewer, volunteered January - February 2017

"The work that SKOPE and KYC do to support education in rural Cambodia is so important for the future of children in these remote areas." Emma Harris and Reece Jewer, volunteered January - February 2017

"I had the most incredible experience teaching at KYC. The children were fantastic and so eager to learn! We were well looked after by the local community and felt so at home during our stay. We will be back! Thank you." Izzy Farnsworth, volunteered May 2017

"Teaching the children at KYC was one of the most rewarding and unforgettable experiences. Don't expect it to be easy, but you can be guaranteed it will be life changing. Also, the village itself and all the villagers are amazing and so generous." Tasha Cook, volunteered May 2017

MORE GOOD DEEDS

Spread the word about your kind acts to help SKOPE

Our coordinator works part time as a writer for an Australian enterprise called More Good Deeds. Based on the principle that one act of kindness inspires another, More Good Deeds promotes happiness and kind actions across the globe.

Every time a More Good Deed user posts their 'good deed' on the project's app, a charity of the user's choice receives $1. This money comes from businesses which have invested in More Good Deeds. And thanks to Ruth's writing work for the organisation, SKOPE is one of their featured charities.

Now it's easier than ever to support SKOPE without spending a penny of your own money. Simply click the link below and download the More Good Deeds app from the App Store, set up a profile (it takes thirty seconds to do) and choose SKOPE as your cause. Then, every time you do something good such as giving up your seat on a bus or buying a coffee for a homeless man, post in the app and SKOPE will receive $1. It couldn't be simpler. Try it now and discover the world of More Good Deeds.
